Do you know what would be absolutely wonderful right now? A buttered cinnamon raisin bagel with honey and a cup of coffee. Mmmmm. Oh wait..I have that here beside me. And it's delicious, just in case you're wondering. =]
Dear readers, I'd like you to know that I dislike bi-polar weather. Last weekend was lovely and warm and this weekend we're practically back to our long johns and wool socks. True, we had record highs last weekend, but I live in Waytoocold located in the frigid northern wastelands of Getmeouttahere. Don't get me wrong, I like snow when it's winter; particularly around Christmas because it makes everything so pretty and you can sled, and make snowmen and all that, but I don't think that cold weather has any business being around when it's supposed to be spring. Everybody was excited last weekend because it was so warm and they were all packing away the knit sweaters that grandma made them. "Ooh it's up to 65 degrees! Time to pull out the tank tops and shorts!"
And guess what some crazy folk did? Laid outside in the sun and got burnt to a crisp. It did get up into the 70s so it was nice, but really? Laying out in the sun? Fine. Burn that beautiful skin of yours. You'll get skin cancer when you're older. And you'll be gross and wrinkly when you're in your late 30s.
Now, I know lots of people that lay out in the sun. I have lots of friends that participate in this time-wasting, skin-frying ritual. And I can't say that I've never done such a thing, but I don't waste my time on it anymore. Ever since I discovered that there are better ways to make use of my precious time, and that getting a tan wasn't good for me *gasp*, I stopped trying to look like I'm from Mexico when I'm not. I have lovely light Norwegian skin and I'm proud of it.
Another thing that bothers me even more than laying out in the sun is when people go to the tanning salon. WHY? Why do you do this? Can somebody please answer this question for me? 1 in 5 people get skin cancer nowadays and it's greatly due to the fact that people go to the tanning salon and spend too much time there and go far too often. Young ladies in particular find the need to look like walking pop tarts fresh out of the toaster oven and I don't understand why. Why can't girls just be comfortable with the way they look? Society should stop pressing us to all look flawless and have freakishly tan skin. I'm not a cookie cutter girl! I refuse to try to look like I just stepped out of a fashion magazine and I'm not going to wear a bucket of makeup every day. Because for the most part, I like the way I look. I'm content being pale. If it means I'm going to live longer and have fresh looking skin when all of my friends are looking like saggy old potato sacks, then fine. In fact...hurray for my pale skin! Hurray for healthy skin! =] Hurray for you if you care and have enough self confidence to steer clear of the tanning salon! (Plus, it never hurt anyone's wallet to stay out of there.)
Alright. Got that out of my system. Enjoy it. Or not. It's up to you. And just remember, tanning booths are evil! Happy blogging! - Ninjasinger
